Description

The gall bladder contains columnar epithelium, smooth muscle, and arteries and veins.
It stores bile, which has both excretory and digestive functions. The surgical procedure to remove it (due to infection, gall stones) is called cholecystectomy, which is now routinely performed through keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery.
