Which pig is the "golden pig"? Perhaps
you can work out how to take a snapshot of the one
you mean. Or perhaps you already know? If you
don't I can tell you how. Woohoo! More fans! I
feel good today :-) Bath is a pretty place to
live. The down-side is that there are very many
tourists, especially in the Summer. In fact there
are so many that it is difficult to do regular
things like go shopping for food. I wonder where
your school is? I expect your teacher will say it
is not safe to tell anyone on the internet exactly
where your school is, but it might be ok to give
me a clue such as which state you are in? Please
ask her for me. I also grew up in the countryside
and much prefer it to cities. Bath is small city
(if it is was in the US I expect you would call it
a town) and has countryside within walking
distance so that is OK for me. Last year I was
working for a school in Bath and we thought it
would be fun for the children to pretentd to hide
behind trees and then for me to take a gigapan of
them hiding. I think you would like the picture
but those children have to stay safe too, so I
can't tell you where it is. I will ask the
childrens' teacher to see if it is OK for you
to see it.
Dear Kilgore661, We loved the Pigs! The Golden pig
was one of our favorite! We are now fans of your
gigapans! Bath looks like a wonderful place to
live. We don't live in a big city, we live in
the country. We like the country because we can
play outside in many different places. We plan to
take more gigapans soon. We are learning to work
the robot so that our teacher won't make so
many mistakes.
Well, thank you for thanking me! It is always nice
to have someone respond to a question. You might
say you have filled my bucket :-) I also like gigapan.org because of the way
that you can see into the lives of people that
live far away. It lets me learn things that I
would not otherwise know. For example, now I know
that US schoolchildren have buckets that can be
filled with nice or nasty things. I would be
surprised if English schoolchildren knew about
buckets. Perhaps they do but they call them
something else. You see: now I have another
question to find the answer to. I will have to
find a teaching friend and ask them and I will
learn even more. Please tell your parents that
they are really cool for letting you participate.
Of course children must use the internet in a safe
way, but I think some English parents are worried
more than they need to be. You wanted to know more
about me and where I live. How long have you got?
:-) The short version is that I am a teacher and
computer expert who got interested in gigapans
very nearly right at the start. I made my first
gigapan robot myself from Lego. You can see it
here: www.kilgore.org.uk/robot.html
;I now have over
400 gigapans at gigapan.org. I am best known
for "Pigs" which you might like to
explore. It is here: www.gigapan.org/gigapans/11099/
The city I live in has a funny name: Bath. It is
named for the Roman baths in the city centre which
are nearly 2,000 years old. The city also has some
other special buildings and now the whole city is
a World Heritage Site. This means that it is so
special that nobody is allowed to change anything.
If you want to see some of the city then you can
look at the many gigapans. (Most of them are taken
by me.) One link is tinyurl.com/bath-gigapans / - let me know if
it doesn't work. You can also find out more

Thanks for responding to our photo! We are so
excited that someone so far away has seen it! Our
parents are so excited that their children can be
part of a global society, that they are allowing
us to use the children in the pictures. We will
not post our names and so try to keep things safe
in that way! We hope to post other pictures soon,
so stay in touch! We would love to know more about
you and where you live! P.S. Thanks for the
information! Our teacher is a newbie to gigapan
and is slowly learning what to do!
I love this shot. I'm also envious because
although I have worked in three schools, not one
of them has given me permission to post the images
at gigapan.org because they
contain images of children. I have clearance to
work with children but even so, the idea of
putting pictures of chidren on the internet is
such a big no-no here in the UK that the teachers
I worked with wouldn't even consider asking
for parental permission.

I forgot to say that making mistakes is what gigapans is all about :-) Here, for example, is one of my early efforts: www.gigapan.org/gigapans/11789/
