The polyptych of the Evangelical Church of Sebes, Alba, Romania by Calin Suteu

(EN) | The gothic choir of the evangelical church was built at the request of the Saxon (Sachsen) community of the city of Mühlbach (Sebeş) between 1361 and 1382 and is 23 meters high, richly adorned with ornaments and sculptures. The columns, with composite capitels are over 11 m in height, the keystones reaching to 16 m. The most important piece is the polyptych, built between 1518 and 1526, amid the transition from Gothic style to that of the Renaissance; it is richly adorned with sculptures in wood and painted in a manner that reminds of Dutch influences. The scenes are those of the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Worship of the Magi and the Circumcision. It is considered to be the most important monument of Transylvanian gothic art and is the largest in Romania, measuring 13 meters in height and 6 in width.

(RO) | Corul gotic al bisericii, construit la cererea comunităţii săseşti din Sebeş (Mühlbach) începând cu a doua jumătate a secolului XIV (între 1361 şi 1382), are o înălţime de 23 de metri şi este bogat decorat cu reliefuri şi sculpturi. Coloanele, împodobite cu capiteluri compozite ating 11 metri înălţime, cheile de boltă ajungând până la 16. Piesa cea mai valoroasă este însă altarul poliptic realizat între 1518 şi 1526, în plină tranziţie de la gotic la Renaştere, decorat cu sculpturi în lemn şi picturi amintind de stilul picturii flamande. Scenele reprezentate sunt Bunavestire, Vizitaţiunea, Închinarea magilor şi Tăierea Împrejur. Este considerat cel mai valoros exemplu de artă gotică transilvăneană şi este cel mai mare din România, 13 metri înalţime şi 6 lăţime.
