This wooded hill in the middle of downtown Singapore was also called Government Hill, after the British colonial administration had used it in the 19th century. There was a cemetary at this location, but the tombstones of the exhumed graves can now be seen embedded in the flanking walls of this compounds. The large colonial style building is now used as a centre for the performing arts, and the grassy slopes hosts outdoor concerts.
