Patio de Arrayanes (Courtyard of Myrtles) by The Gigapanographer Currently Known as "Kilgore661"

I'm not sure why this area is named for 'arrayanes'. According to on-line translators this word means 'myrtles' in English which is (apparently) a family of flowers with (allegedly) medical uses. Perhaps the hedge is made of myrtle?
