Taken May 2008. The view to this Torii is a favourite photograph for tourists to this region of Japan. From Hiroshima, this is located a 40 minute train ride then 40 minute ferry ride away from the City Centre. The gate's base is submerged at high tide, and seen on mud flats at low tide. This picture is taken from the Itsukushima Shrine, which was first built in the sixth century and re-modeled in the 12th century. The vermilion O-Torii is about 200 meters in front of the Itsukushima Shrine. Visit the "Miyajima Tourist Association" at www.miyajima.or.jp/miyakan2/index.html
