    I noticed that the image was still at 8MB and I am extremely curious what I will be able to see with an image at a quality closer to 32MB. That will certainly reveal anything that I might have missed. Once those images are produced I will let Dr. Lewis see the images and I am sure that he will have a comment or two. He is a structural geologist and my advisor for my research project.

    Glad it works for you, Mark. . You might notice that this is a ridiculously small image by Gigapan standards. It is in fact only three portrait oriented overlapping frames from right to left for each sample. We are going to try 12 just for the fun of it before sending your samples back today. We will also try direct flash rather than bounce diffuse as that seemed to soften edges. I'd like to see some snapshots with comments from you geology experts so we know what to look for in the future. We don't know nuffin about birthin no tectonic plates in this lab. TG

    Absolutely incredible images! If you look at TT10.2.10.1, the direction of principle stress can be seen easily and is traveling parallel to the cut surface. Every clast above the black fracture (pressure solution- most likely slate) is brittle-cataclastic directly from the surface of the fault. TT10.2.07.1, the principle stress is perpendicular to the cut surface. Both images clearly show the kinematics and the properties are detailed enough to make the assumption that these specimens responded to extremely brittle tectonic conditions. These images are very useful for any structural geologist thanks to Tony Gutierrez, Graham Snodgrass and the Macropod!
