The sixth shot in my series from Amsterdam. This is a chanced-upon scene as the sun was setting. Very difficult for me to get the colours right but I shall work on it.
If you look carefully you can see me being pestered by a duck - a drake mallard I believe. I was initially somewhat surprised by its apparent tameness as it came up to me and then alarmed as it started pecking me. As I had never been pecked by a duck before and it didn't really hurt, I let it do its thing. It didn't stop. It pecked my hands then my shoes, my legs. At the time I was puzzled and thought maybe it wanted food (this spot is directly opposite the Rijksakadmie so maybe students picnic in the Summer?). It's just occurred to me that maybe it was defending a nest? But not at this time of year (late November) surely?
What was that about then? Something environmental? Or maybe the duck simply had an attitude problem and was just looking for a fight?
