I took this panaroma at a pullout located on the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway (also Wy 296). The road crosses over the Absaroka Range at approximately 8,050 feet and provides an amazing view looking to the northeast towards the Beartooth Mountains.
Dead Indian Hill and Sunlight Basin provide excellent opportunities to explore the structural geology associated with Laramide-style tectonics. Sunlight Basin and and Russell Creek Drainage offer opportunities to explore the effects of glaciation and lacustrine sedimentation.
