Description

Undoubtedly the most-photographed building in Germany, Neuschwanstein is a 19th-century Romanesque Revival palace commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria. Foot traffic on the bridge where I stood moved the camera and made standard stitching impossible. This image was composed largely by hand.

Photographed Sept. 18, 2010, 12:08-12:19 pm
1/200 sec. f/5.6 ISO 80
Effective focal length 219mm
148 photos

Wow! So beautiful. It's like in fairy tales. Reminds me of Beauty and the Beast! Thanks Tom.

Great find, David! Those are some wonderful pictures. The history of "mad" King Ludwig will always be murky, but there's adequate reason to believe he was murdered.

The Atlantic Magazine has a link called, In Focus, which has collections of current photos and a recent collection is the history of this castle, which you have taken a GigaPan of: www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2011/0 6/the-125th-anniversary-of-the-death-of-king-ludwi g-ii/100085 Will open in
a new tab or window/ It is a pity that they did not include your panorama in the set.

If this is, as you suggest, "the most-photographed building in Germany," then your stunning 0.87 gigapixel hand-held GigaPan may be the best ever taken of this magnificent building.
