This 63-acre Susquehanna River island opposite Center City Harrisburg is a major tourism and recreational destination and contains archeological treasures of Native American tribes which established seasonal settlements here. The island during the Civil War was a stopping off-point for Union soldiers who crossed over it by way of the Camelback Bridge to defend Harrisburg from Confederate threat.
Today, the island is home to professional minor league baseball at Metro Bank Park Stadium as well as to other attractions including Riverside Village, Harbourtown, Skyline Sports Complex, Carriage House, Harrisburg Paddlewheel Riverboat, miniature golf, three boat marinas, and the City Island Railroad.
