This containment pond or “frac pond” is 150 yards long and 100 yards wide, according to measurements on Google Earth. Frac ponds like this are lined with a thick reienforced plastic similar to the Reinforced Polypropylene found at the following link. www.westernliner.com/polypropylene.html Will open in a new tab or window . These ponds are used to store water that will be used in frac jobs. An average well will have 10 or so stages with an average water requirement of 10,000 barrels -- or 420,000 gallons -- of water per stage. This water is typically brought in by truck and is either fresh water or cleaned (of suspended solids) recycled water. Water is stored in the frac pond will be pumped to the well site to fracture the well. A generator and pumps can be seen next to the frac pond with a long pipeline to the well site. The equipment and pipeline will be removed once the wells have been fraced and the pond will be remediated.
