Description

Wiki: Lyttelton is a port town on the north shore of Lyttelton Harbour next to Banks Peninsula, 12 km by road from Christchurch on the eastern coast of the South Island of New Zealand.

Lyttelton has long been the main port of the Canterbury / Christchurch area. The port saw such prosperity at times that Kaiapoi, on the coast north of Christchurch, briefly reopened its closed port facilities for a decade between 1958 and 1967, to allow smaller ships to bypass the congested Lyttelton wharves.[4] Later, the port was chosen as one of the main ports in the South Island that would be dredged and upgraded for containerisation.

Excellent panorama. Like the dappling of the clouds on the water. The port suffered $50m damage from the 4th September quake with the container terminal wharves sinking 30-40cm compared with the land.
