Brokeoff Mountain is an eroded stratavolcano that comprises the Southern flank of the Lassen Range. It marks the border between Tehama and Shasta Counties, and the watershed boundary between Battle and Mill Creeks.
This panorama centers on Mount Lassen, with Mill Creek draining to the right, and Battle Creek draining to the left.
Mill Creek's headwaters is in the center-right of the image, in 'Little Hot Springs Valley'. This area contains the former core of a large historic volcano known as Mount Tehama which spanned the area from Lassen Peak to this photo. Hot springs in this area have 'hydrothermally altered' the soils in the area. Because Mill Creek's headwaters are largely barren and unstable, the Mill Creek watershed generally has higher turbidities (it's murkier) that its neighbors.
