On the 24th of January 1900, after the British forces had captured Spioenkop, Commandant Hendrik Prinsloo positioned a detachment of fifty burghers here. When the mist cleared at about 08h00 in the morning they had a clear view of the British soldiers on the north-west crest of Spioenkop.
