In light of the debate on how to judge how large a picture truly is, I have a blog post I just wrote proposing stringent rules for how to measure this. ideas.4brad.com/definition-pixels- worlds-biggest-photos Will open in

The artefacts that you have noticed are software glitches, as the stitching software that we are using is still in beta as indeed is the whole GigaPan project and is still being tested and refined by the scientists involved. You have noticed correctly that there are still some issues in regards to architectural images and shift rendering algorithms to some extent. Fixed aperture and focus were maintained throughout. Thanks for your enquiry. pay per click neon lights

It's not the biggest any more - www.gigapan.org/gigapans/66626/ is. Much bigger. There is also an interesting debate about how a gigapan "really is". It turns out that this is not an easy question to answer because, in essence, quality is subjective: one person's "crap" is another person's "wow - I'm amazed you even got that to stitch"

    MOorthuis (January 03, 2011, 02:08AM )

Well it's the biggest panorama, but it's quality is totally crap. For me the 111 gigapixel of Sevilla is much sharper and nicer because of the nice colours etc. This image is only made to be the biggest but not the most nice one.

As I had mentioned in an earlier GigaPan of yours, www.gigapan.org/gigapans/54825/ I hope to see such phenomenal work done on two GigaPans of Hong Kong, which both would be *awesome* Congrats on this current milestone.

This image is an amazing achievement - congratulations! I am also amazed that it is not No. 1 at gigapan.org. As to the comments about bigness, my own opinion is that gigapanography is *not* photography. The whole point of gigapans is to engage people in the world of others. Artistic merit is not necessary for this although it helps. What is more important (imo) is the amount of detail in the image - the more detail the more the "Wow" factor and hence the more peple that get involved in learning about other people's worlds. So provided the image is sharp then bigness is everything because that implies more detail.

Congratulations again! Bravissimo! Hallo Good Photo, but size is not everything. I think you can make this picture 16 times smaller, without loosing something. I do it also with my Panoramas. I make the new ones 4 or 16 times smaller. You can save time in postprocessing and the upload time is match faster. Also the gigapan server will like you, for this. But sometimes I think, maybe some people don't look at my pictures because the are only 0.5 Gigapixel big. But acutely the were 8 Gigapixel big. I think it would be good when gigapan would measure the information (Contrast between pixels) in the picture and not only the pixels-count. And display the Information-count. If the transition Quality is good or bad, can everybody see, most of the time, easily. But how much Information the Photo really has, is very difficult to see, because the Photos are so big. Also Gigapan could save disk-space and energy. Because people would downsize the Panoramas by them self. What are you thinking, or do they work on this anyway.
