Photographed April 15th, 2010, on my second trip back to the site. The stadium is actually pretty tricky to photograph; the architecture here makes for extremely strange distortions, and the lack of flat, 4-walled interior surfaces makes for some pretty interesting 360s.

Turns out the foundation of the abandoned Miami Marine Stadium is actually just as useful to the graffiti artists who have made this spot one of the most visible and well-known penits in Miami.

The stadium was built in 1963 on Virginia and used mainly as venue for Jimmy Buffet concerts and a few other artists, apparently. Last used as a power boating venue in 1989, the site was condemned in 1992 after Hurricane Andrew. It's remained standing to this day, now used as a communal location to create and showcase work by Miami's underground street art scene.

As of April 8, 2010, the Miami-Dade Commission approved $3 million to go toward rehabbing the stadium. Although $8-10 million is estimated to be needed, it would seem that Marine Stadium's days as a canvas are numbered.
