Description

The picture is taken from the tower of a ski jump (!). The shadows seen on each side is from the broken fence on the top... There was a local football tournament going on just below the hill. Sandnes is a local community app 10 kms ooutside Kirkenes. They have theis own children school to be seen in the centre of the picture. In the background on the left Norwegian military watch towers can be seen overlooking the Russian border. On the right hans side in the distance it might be possible to see both Russian and Finnish mountains as we are quite close to both. In the centre back is another village called Bjørnevatn developed based on the local mine. The iron ore mining started by A/S Sydvaranger in 1906 and was closed in 1994 due to low prices internationally. Now the mines are opening again with iron ore prices all time high. The long fjord seen on the picture is called - yes - Langfjord :-)
