Description

Just south of the center of the old (now defunct) town of Dana was Pottapaug Pond. Prior to the creation of the Quabbin Reservoir the east branch of the Swift River flowed into this pond and continued downstream. With the creation of the Quabbin, Pottapaug Pond merged with the body of the reservoir - raising the pond's level upwards of 14 feet.

The photo was taken from the boat launch in fishing area #3 accessible from Quabbin gate #43. Here you can launch into both Pottapaug Pond (to the north) or the Quabbin (to the south). Fees apply. Some of the fishermen I spoke with mentioned seeing bald eagles but I didn't see any today
