Moonrise over Manhattan... by John Opie

This one is also from Top of The Rock, using the Sunrise/Sunset ticket which allows you back in during the evening hours. Great deal!

This was the second night-time shot I took, and the only one worth showing. The problem here was that it was very, very windy and the GorillaPod DSLR simply lacked the mass to handle the wind-based movement of the gigapan head (Epic 100). Bringing up the ISO to 800 allowed a fairly short exposure time to avoid the severe vibrations from the wind. The gigapan kit was mounted on a GorillaPod DSLR on a stone plinth (the same one used for the daytime view (see gigapan.org/gigapans/55479/)). Hence it is a tad darker than I would like, and the moon remains overexposed (and because it moved between pictures, is also distorted here as well...

Night-time pictures from the Top of the Rock are very difficult to do well due to the necessity of using a really solid tripod instead of the GorillaPod DSLR.
