- Description
-
Fossil excavation at Quarry 3 in the Changma Basin of northwestern Gansu Province, China (June 7, 2009). Quarries like this at Changma have thus far yielded thousands of ~115 million-year-old fossils, including approximately 100 partial to nearly complete skeletons of archaic birds belonging to several species.
(Note that, because our team was actively quarrying and discovering fossils as this GigaPan was being taken, there are numerous "movement artifacts" toward the bottom of the image.)
