San Xavior Del Bac Mission - The White Dove of the Desert - interior - 312 by John Post

Known as the 'White Dove of the Desert', this Southwest Jesuit mission was founded in 1692 as part of New Spain, it was transferred to the Franciscan missionaries around 1768 and shortly thereafter it was destroyed by Indians. Located 9 miles South of Tucson, the current church was rebuilt in 1793 and is the oldest intact European structure in Arizona and is considered to be the finest example of Spanish Colonial architechture in the United States.
The church's sanctuary features unique murals and original statuary and has been called the "Sistine Chapel of the New World".
This Gigapan photo is my largest to date, it contains 312 images and measures 783"x144", . My 'Beta' version GigaPan trigger mechanism broke, fortunatly I was able to advance and trigger each shot manually. Since it was dark inside, the exposures varied from 1/15 to 6 seconds each and at times I had to wait for tourists to get out of the scene, also along the way I had to change out tired batteries to complete the shoot.
