The trees are growing in front to the overlooks. I had to set the camera up on the very edge of a cliff to get the view to include New York City, and even then I only got midtown, and the Empire State building is in the trees (far right edge). The interstate highway is Route 80. Paterson has a rich history, and is New Jersey's third largest city. The Great Falls (gigapan coming soon) of the Passaic River are in Paterson, which are the second-highest large-volume falls on the East Coast of the United States.
