The registan is a UNESCO world heritage site, consisting of three madrasahs enclosing a courtyard (on three sides). Three madrasahs of the Registan are: Ulugbek Madrasah (1417-1420), the Sher-Dor Madrasah (1619-1636) and the Tilya-Kori Madrasah (1646-1660), and represent some of the world best Timurid architecture, and on of the most spectacular islamic sites in the world. Most of what exists today is the result of extensive reconstruction and restoration. The registan was essentially in shambles at the end of the 19th century. Zoom in close to the beautiful tilework, the plants, and everything else!
