The volcano Nevado de Toluca or Xinantecatl with 4,690 masl is the 4th highest elevation in Mexico, the volcano is also a national park (Parque Nacional del Nevado de Toluca) and is the main source of water for the inhabitants of the valley of Toluca, where the city of Toluca (with. 1.8 million people) is also located. Despite its name (nevado = snowy), the snow is now a rare event, but during the first weeks of January there was a cold front which brough some snow to the mountain. It was only last saturday that I was able to go, and while I was unable to get in time for the picture I wanted at sunrise did manage to get a shot from the spot I had in mind, where you can see the peaks, lakes and valley.
Tech comments: The wind was very strong (90 km/h gusts) so had to set the iso on 400, with an aperture of f16 and 1/640 sec. at 70mm I focused manually every picture to keep the distance in focus when the camera was including first plane rocks, which were not as important as the background. I also took a panorama at 200mm, but the resulting raw image (15 GB) cannot be opened by my computer (4 gb ram, quad core, 64bits)
