Home ground of Altius United Cricket Club,club champions(2008/9) of the 1A division of WPCA,the highest level of amateur cricket in South Africa. The United Team for Cricket South Africa, National Club Champs 2009 is : Muneer Holmes,Muneeb Abbas, Junaid Buffkins, Qaasim Adams, Wesaam Keraan, Anees Davids, Azees Temoore, Igshaan Damon, Abdullah Osman, Rashid Lewis(player coach wk), Dane Patterson and Seraj Abrahams. The club was formed in 1976 and its history can be traced back to the formation of the Western Province Coloured Cricket Union way back in 1890.Most of the affilliated clubs including Ottomans,Roslyns,Hamediahs,Victorians,Young Ideas,Squares,Montrose,Walmers,Silvertree and Arabian College were from Distric Six (declared a white area with the advent of Apartheid) and the Bokaap. Vineyards,Violets and Combine hailed from Claremont.The advent of Apartheid and Group Area Act forced removals of people who were not white was to wreak havoc with the long standing tradition of cricket.By the early 1970's clubs were battling to field teams. Concerned administrators discussed the situation and agreed that the best way forward was for some clubs to join forces and form one club, United Cricket Club.
