Comments on Gigapan: Lower Yosemite Falls

  2. As you approach you can see both the upper and lower falls. As you get closer you can only see the lower falls. At this time of year (late fall) there is little water coming over the falls and it allowed people to play on the rocks below. Canon S5IS Gigapan Epic 100

    @stoney - Actually I like it the way it is. Just been there and my photos are much more bland. This one has a kind of HDR effect on a Gigapan. Not enough of that has been done yet! Shame the sky looks weird though.

    You probably need to adjust some of the parameters in the tone mapping program that you are using. If you are using Photomatix Pro you might use the fusion method instead of the details enhancer TMO ( tone mapping operator ). Decrease the strength and also the light smoothing. You may need to decrease the saturation as well. When you are finished a levels adjustment ( larger ) in Photoshop with a possible ( small ) increase in the blacks level should help. You may realize better results by using a row pattern to capture the panorama and repeating the shots that include sky with an exposure that is optimal for this. You can replace the photographs to be stitched while combining two photos with masks in photoshop for areas that contain sky and rock. Another way to do this is to stitch two versions and then blend them together as layers with a mask that contains a gradient. This is probably the easiest way if the panorama is not too large. Though you are at the limit if you do not have more than 4GB of system memory.
