At the end of Hat Point this tree has stood for hundreds of years, growing out of a rock and buffeted by severe Lake Superior storms. The first written account of the 'Spirit Tree' was back in the 1731 by a French explorer. It is believed the tre was mature at the time making the 'Spirit Tree' 300 years old. This is a sacred site to the Ojibwe people whose reservation is where the 'Spirit Tree' lives.
