A mile thick slab of ice covered Yosemite during the last ice age and it literally left a significant impression. The granite was smoothed, removed, rounded, and polished. Scratch marks were left that show the directions of glacier travel and erratic rock were left behind in places like this. Creation of the landscape is ongoing here and everywhere else. but is much more evident here to the observant eye.
