- Description

These are the rocks that hosted much of the gold on the west slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range for California's 1849 Gold Rush. This roadcut on Interstate 80 offers no pullouts for convenient GigaPanning - I had to park at a CHP station about half a mile east of here and walk back on the shoulder to get this shot. For its geologic and historic significance it was well worth the effort. The highway may appear deserted, but that's only through the magic of pausing and reshooting frames that the robot caught vehicles in.
