San Gimignano is a famous hill town in Tuscany noted for its medieval towers erected by various families for their own security. Today it is one of the most visited sites in Tuscany and in the summer is often overcrowded with tourists. I was one of them in the summer of 2009. This image is taken from a hillside with a stupendous view of the city, perched on a hilltop for security, and the surrounding countryside which is equally interesting.
