Ron, Thanks a lot for your comment and advice about how to correct for possible alignment problems after changing batteries. I tried to gauge the battery levels found I could usually shoot 5 gigapans in one day with one set of batteries. Somehow I misjudged on this set. (I found the new Eneloop rechargeables keep the charge longer and are more reliable than older types.)

I've found that the Epic100 gearing does a pretty good job of holding the pitch (up/down position) of the camera during a battery change but the yaw (right/left position) is susceptible to movement while you're removing and replacing the batteries. When I change batteries I make sure I know what was centered in the last image taken and then recenter that before resuming.
