Brasilia - Justice Palace and Congress

Located on the Three Powers Square, at the end of the Ministries Plateau, the Palace of Justice was designer by Oscar Niemeyer. It is the headquarters for the Ministry of Justice.

Guided visits are available to its Black Hall, the Portraits Room, Library and Internal Garden. Monday to Friday, from 9 to 11 am and from 3 to 5 pm. Information: +55 (61) 3429-3401

More about Brasilia: The Capital City of Brazil created ex nihilo (out of nothing) in the centre of the country in 1956, was a landmark in the history of town planning. Inaugurated in 1960 (April 21st) it has a population of about 2,557,000 as of the 2008 census estimate, making it the fourth largest city in Brazil.

Brasilia is a masterpiece of modernist architecture. It is the only city in the world built in the 20th century to be awarded (in 1987) the status of Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Brasilia is celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2010.

Palácio da Justiça e Congresso

De autoria de Niemeyer, o palácio assemelha-se ao do Ministério das Relações Exteriores, o Itamaraty, por causa dos seus arcos. Além do espelho d’água, cascatas artificiais correm por calhas de concreto e são a atração da fachada principal.
