More about Brasilia: The Capital City of Brazil created ex nihilo (out of nothing) in the centre of the country in 1956, was a landmark in the history of town planning. Inaugurated in 1960 (April 21st) it has a population of about 2,557,000 as of the 2008 census estimate, making it the fourth largest city in Brazil.

Brasilia is a masterpiece of modernist architecture. It is the only city in the world built in the 20th century to be awarded (in 1987) the status of Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Brasilia is celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2010.

Projeto arquitetônico de Oscar Niemeyer e paisagístico de Burle Marx. É um conjunto de edifícios de linhas sóbrias, complementado por um palanque monumental - conhecido como Cúpula da Espada de Caxias - , pela Praça dos Cristais - um conjunto de esculturas de pedra em forma de cristais de rocha -, pelo Oratório do Soldado, por um auditório.
