Honey Bee Colonies in Maine for Bueberry Pollination by Dennis vanEngelsdorp

My name is Mike Andree and I was recently trained by my boss and mentor Dennis vanEngelsdorp on how to take digital images using the Gigapan device. This is my first Gigapan picture and it was taken in the blueberry barrens of Deblois, Maine off of Route 193. I was sent to Maine to carry out a pollen experiment conducted by the Pennsylvania State University (which I am employed by thanks to a grant given to PSU by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture) in which blueberry pollen was trapped off of bees for research purposes. There are several sets of hives visible in the Gigapan picture; how many can you spot? The images were captured in order to illustrate the beauty and scale of one of our nation’s agricultural products and also some of its most diligent workers, honey bees. Using the Gigapan device has been a rewarding experience and I am anxious and excited to see how the other series of images I took in Maine will turn out using the Gigapan device and software.
