General Nathanael Greene commanded colonial troops facing Lord Cornwallis and his army at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in 1781. The Redcoats won, but suffered such severe losses that they never fully recovered, leading to the surrender of Cornwallis the following October in Yorktown. The battleground is now a National Military Park in Greensboro, North Carolina, which was named for the Fighting Quaker, Nat Greene.
