Description

Here we see the Space Shuttle Atlantis on pad 39-A one day before the launch of the Hubble Servicing Mission 4. It is enclosed inside the Rotating Service Structute (RSS) that protects the orbiter from the elements while sitting on the pad allowing NASA technicians access to the orbiter and payload bay. The giant cubical Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) is visible three miles away. The large water tank to the right of the launch pad is part of the sound suppression water system.
