An acoustic cloak enables acoustic wave energy to be directed around an object. As a first step towards fabricating a cloak, this research simulates a fluid-like material (a metafluid) that can achieve this effect. The metafluid has the property of supporting a biaxial stress in a desired manner as compared with a hydrostatic state of stress in a compressible fluid. A system of small spheroidal particles in point contact that impact the behavior of the macroscopic system is studied. This poster summarizes the JJ Slade research focused on analyzing the mechanical properties of such a system.
This research was done by Adam J. Nagy working with Prof. Andrew N. Norris as the advisor.
