This is the valley of the River Wharfe in the Yorkshire Dales, England. All the land you see in this image, up to the high ground on the other side of the valley, was carved out by a huge glacier during the last ice age. The shot was taken from the slopes of 'The Chevin' - a name for the high ground (of ancient Celtic origin from the word 'Cefyn', or 'ridge of high land) overlooking the town of Otley.
