No, you mustn't laugh - I was in a terrible accident.
First serious test of the Epic 100 with my Canon 400D. Shot at f/20 and +/-2 bracketing.

fetching snapshots...

I agree with what you say about losing the intent, and more to the point you are skilled at getting great contrast without needing to use anything other than your eyes and your trusty Leica :-). I am less skilled so I see HDR as one way of rescuing images where I can't decide how best to set up the camera. It does have the usually unwanted side effect of flattening the image, but with skill one can achieve remarkable images like these tinyurl.com/kwzxm5
and these tinyurl.com/3664cs
. Not an effect that
you'd want to use all the time, but I would
sure like to know how to do it.

I am not particulary fond of HDR, but this image compared with the original. www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id= 20934 , I can see a definite improvement. If one were to apply HDR to these two images that were taken at Rice University and the one following image of downtown Houston, the effect or original intent would have been lost: www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id= 28458www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id= 27758www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id= 28063
