You can elimate the "blotchy" look by setting the white balance to something other than AWB auto white balance and setting the exposure manually using the "M" manual mode. The Sony DSC-W300 does not have a manual focus or auto focus lock so you cannot lock this. Look at the Handbook and not the instruction manual on pages 34 manual exposure, 56 ISO, 60-62 WB white balance. esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-do cuments.pl?mdl=DSCW300
