A long-distance view of Winchester showing the Cathedral (www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=15455) and the Hospital of St. Cross.
I am surprised this image came out as well as it did because the wind was blowing so hard that I had to steady the tripod by holding on to it even though the tripod is a heavy one (Manfrotto 055B). Not only that, the Sun went in and out and in desperation I changed the shutter speed twice as the gigapan was shooting. The raw result was terrible as you might imagine. The areas in the pano that look a bit darker than they should be are more-or-less completely black in the original images.
However I got lucky with Photoshop. I stabbed buttons at random and got what you see here.
Winchester is a great place for fans of history. I was only there for a morning and history is not one of my active interests and yet I came away with knowledge of Winchester in Roman and medieval times. I'm sure people more knowledgeable than I can add a wealth of detail to this image.
