    Description:

    Looks like someone has helped out the natural erosion here to expose the layer beneath the basaltic lava flow.

    Description:

    This is the one area along the entire rim of the crater where there appears to have been no preexisting basalt lava layer - the tephra lies directly upon unconsolidated Quaternary alluvium.

    Description:

    ... one of the thickest accumulations of tephra around the crater as far as I could see. Was the wind blowing from the west during the eruption?
