Up until recently in time it was thought that life could not exist on the desert mountains of Antarctica until someone bothered to break open rocks and discover algae just under the surface of many rocks out there and Martian meteorites have been landing in Antarctica for billions of years, also rocks from earth will of been blown on course to Mars from asteroid collisions on our planet and the fact we cant think up all the possible ways life can exist doesn't stop it happening as life is a natural observation of the universe and does not emerge as a matter of intellectual conception.

There is enough carbon and oxygen in the atmosphere to sustain an adapted life form on Mars in the available Co2 and we get our carbon the same way though we take in in conveniently ready made by plants in the form of carbohydrates.I think its about time we matched the possible creativeness of life that may be somewhere on Mars with an equal or better creative skill at seeking it out, curiosity is a great step forward but we will need to start thinking outside of the box more if we want to be successful.
