Description

This Spirit rover panorama was downloaded from keith Laney's website keithlaney.net, I enhanced the resolution slightly. What you see in this image is the remains of an ancient civilization, with many earthen structures, foundations, walls, carvings and anything else that might remain after thousands of years. This type of architecture can be found all over Mars. Also take a look at the Mt. Sharp panorama on Gigapan to see more of this.

Spirit took this panorama of images, covering a field of view just under 180 degrees from left to right, with the panoramic camera on Martian days (sols) 594, 595, and 597 (Sept. 4, 5, and 7, 2005) of its exploration of Gusev Crater on Mars. This is a false-color rendering generated using the camera's 750-nanometer, 530-nanometer, and 430-nanometer filters.
