I was in two minds about whether to make this image public because of the horrible mess in the sky particularly around the lightship. The reason for the mess is that what I am trying to do here is make a gigapan that uses a mixture of focal lengths: short for the boring stuff, long for the interesting stuff. It's true this technique makes a gigapan whose size is 'inflated' but it has the advantage that only the areas of the scene that warrant extreme detail are shot with a long lens. This shot is a mixture of 17mm (for sky and grass), 55mm (for the horizon where the buildings are) and 200mm for the interesting buildings. Of course, what happened was that the clouds changed between the three shoots and I am rubbish at Photoshop, hence the horrible mess. I will add in my defence that is quite difficult to edit a 365GB image file on a machine with 16GB RAM. In the end I decided to make it public in the hope that the idea behind the technique inspires other people to try the same thing (and improve on my stumbling efforts :-)
