Barlow’s Knoll. Brig. Gen. Francis Barlow was ordered to protect the right flank of the Union army on Oak Ridge on the first day of fighting. The 28-year old general chose this high ground for his position but got too far in front of his support and was overrun by troops from Georgia. Barlow was badly wounded in the fighting.
The area at the extreme right of the photo is the old Alms House Cemetery for the indigent of Adams County.
