Description

This ant, an alate queen of Pachycondyla sp. MAS0017 a provisional species very near Pachycondyla purpurascens morphologically, but 4% genetically divergent. She was collected from a Malaise trap set at 1000m on Volcan Cacao, Guanacaste Costa Rica (10.925, -85.467).

In the Area de Conservacion de Guanacaste, we have found this ant from 300 - 1,500m, most commonly at 1000-1,200m and only rarely at 300 or 1,500m (and here only in Malaise traps).

08COSTA-0361.

We're testing the GigaPan stitching of z-stacked images we're taking with a Leica Z16 microscope.
