Description

The Rathaus is a building in Vienna which serves as the seat both of the mayor and city council of the city of Vienna. The town hall also serves, in personal union, as Governor and Assembly (Landtag) of the State of Vienna, a state with the Austrian federal system.

Das Wiener Rathaus am Rathausplatz im 1. Wiener Gemeindebezirk, Innere Stadt, bis etwa 1970 zur Unterscheidung vom Alten Rathaus Neues Rathaus genannt, wurde von 1872 bis 1883 nach Entwürfen des Architekten Friedrich von Schmidt im Stil der Neogotik errichtet. Hier befinden sich die Amtsräume des Wiener Bürgermeisters und Landeshauptmanns, des Gemeinderates und Landtages, von Wiener Stadtsenat und Wiener Landesregierung, des Magistratsdirektors und diverser Magistratsabteilungen.
