Preah Vihear 4th Level

Preah Vihear is one of 2 World Heritage sites in Cambodia:

High atop the ridge bordering Thailand and Cambodia, it was a site of strife as both Thailand and Cambodia claimed the site. Finally, the World Court decided for Cambodia.

Several hours drive from Siem Reap, at the entrance you switch to a 4x4 (US$5) A steep new road has been built most of the way up. According to the story we heard, the Thais threatened to bomb the road if they continued it that way. So, it converts to a smaller / steeper road. Passing some houses, jungle, and bunkers for the border security.

At the base of the temple, you can see across to the Thai side of the border / and their headquarters.

OK, it's a safe place to go now :-)
